Why is Amazon changing lives?
Amazon changes lives with a never-ending commitment to customer centricity. All of the company’s units, from AWS, Amazon.com, consumer electronics, in-house brands, Amazon Prime Video, and even Whole Foods, exist for customers. Employees and executives are encouraged to bring new ideas up in regular meetings. Bezos’ ruthless six-pagers (documents outlining product ideas) can be prepared and presented to management by anyone thinking about how to streamline Amazon’s processes.
After the dot-com bubble burst, Amazon was a young, struggling company. Bezos grew so concerned about bankruptcy that he decided to call in consultants to advise company leadership on paths to success. One consultant suggested the “flywheel” concept. Spinning flywheels attract customers to Amazon. New customers increase demand for resellers on the platform.
Customers + resellers + products = increased sales. Every decision is made in the best interests of customers. Nimble flywheel drive innovation through the use of AI. Artificial intelligence gathers data from website visitors, Prime members streaming movies, businesses using AWS, and wherever else it can scrape for it. Data is then organized and used to optimize customer experiences.
Jeff Bezos: The electricity metaphor
At Amazon, innovation isn't fleeting. The company's Day 1 philosophy defines new Inventions as representations of progress. Bezos compares the internet to the Gold Rush. Gold mining quickly faded into obscurity after early adopters struck it rich. Unlike the gold rush, true innovation doesn’t have a last nugget. Each new idea sparks more possibilities, fueling a continuous cycle of growth.
Amazon understands that breakthrough technologies often begin in primitive stages that evolve. Bezos believes new tools can enhance the effectiveness of previous ones. His mindset drives Amazon’s relentless pursuit of solutions that improve the lives of its future customers. Rather than getting distracted by internal politics or weighed down by corporate bureaucracy, Amazon stays laser-focused on looking ahead to what’s next.
